Chief Investment Officer

Job Summary

Moneta is an independent Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) wholly focused on going further for our clients. We are one firm with many solutions which provides a full spectrum of financial advisory services, but our true purpose is centered on building relationships and providing exceptional service to our clients around the globe.  We are consistently ranked among the top 5 largest fee only independent RIA with $24 Billion in AUM.  We have over 350 employees of which 72 are Advisors and 47 make up our Partners, managing relationships in four strategic markets. 


As a member of the firm’s senior leadership team, the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) will be integral in establishing the firm’s long-term investment vision, philosophy, and strategies.  The CIO plans and directs the firm’s investment programs; oversees research, evaluation, and selection of asset classes and investment vehicles; makes decisions which align investment selections with firm goals; represents the firm in public forums; works closely with Investment Committee to recommend and implement firm-wide investment guidelines; provides education to Partner teams and their clients. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for investment policies and direction of investment management activities for high net worth individual investors and/or trusts
  • Further responsible for directly supervising portfolio managers and developing investment policies and programs that maximizes portfolio performance consistent with client or trust investment objectives  
  • Individual has responsibility for business results (e.g., pricing, expense management, staffing) of the individual account business  
  • Incumbent is a seasoned money manager and an experienced administrator 
  • Fosters an environment of open, honest, and timely communication 
  • Ensures the vision and core values of Moneta are incorporated into the duties and responsibilities of the position 


  • Experience as a Chief Investment Officer as well as experience in managing a team of CFA’s
  • Significant experience working with high net worth families
  • Demonstrated skills and experience working in private and alternative markets (i.e., hedge funds and private equity) required
  • Prior experience participating in client and prospect meetings
  • Deep knowledge of investment strategies, investment solutions, private markets, and the competitive landscape of the wealth management industry
  • Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple and varied tasks independently
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Basic office technology knowledge (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) 
  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze and resolve complex matters 
  • Strategic, management, and tactical experience with investment concepts, practices, and procedures 
  • Ability to interact well with all employees, clients, external Investment Manager colleagues
  • The ability to lead, delegate and mentor, and the desire to work well with others to achieve common goals


  • B.S. Accounting, Economics, Engineering, Finance, or Math; Master’s degree preferred
  • CHARTERED FINANCIAL ANALYST® or progress toward designation preferred
  • Twenty years or more investments/analysis experience including a senior leadership role
  • Frequent travel to market offices and client/prospect meetings
